These where taken somewhere in the state of West Virginia heading into the capital from Kentucky. The oil (or what I presume to be oil/coal refineries excited the heck out of me...love (maybe love isn't really the word that best describes my fascination but it will have to suffice) the rusting, well used and worn industrial metal and sounds of manufacturing.
My other fascinations are watching high rises being built, buildings being transformed, and construction where the earth is upturned...doom, power, tomorrow's ancient archeologies...those are some of the words that roll around in my head.
I love the architectural vistas, too. Everytime we drive across the bridge into downtown Portland, I love looking at the shapes and construction going on.

Hey! Karoda! There's the WV state capitol dome! Thanks for visiting! I'm 3 hours north, but just wanted to wave as you went by! Happy trails.
ReplyDeleteYour fascination with machinery is no worse than mine for the Interstate fly-over bridges in New Orleans. Even as a small child, every time we were down there I'd beg my dad to drive around on them just so I could see them at every angle. Well, all but the Huey P. Long bridge. That one scared me. I'm still fascinated with them.
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe you fantasized about turning the smokestacks into enormous shibori dying rods ....
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures. There's hope for me yet. I've been toying with photography for some time but never really put my mind into it. You have inspired me. Thanks.
