This is what I did today. I really have a hard time throwing away even the smallest of scraps. My goal was not to cut any fresh fabric but use up the scraps. I just sat at the kitchen table and cut and fused. The first one I cut wonky triangles and just laid them where they seem to fit the best. The second one is are wonky rectangles some as narrow as 1/8 inch but none wider than 1.5 inches and none longer than 3 inches. I think the rectangles will grow pretty large as my scraps increased. The only reason I stopped was for lack of darker greens and a wider range of blues.

Looks like lotsa fun!
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly what I was going to say, Mary! I want use this "confetti" method to do a background for a small piece. Then I could have fun, be frugal, use me up some scraps (reducing clutter), and also feel that I'd met my "try new techniques" goal.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the rectangle one!! It's fresh and spontaneous. The triangles are interesting, but it looks like someone jumped a meeting of the "red hatters".
ReplyDeleteI really like what you are doing with your scraps. I imagine there is a lot of thought going into colour placement.
ReplyDeleteThe triangle piece has a three dimensional effect going on to which is interesting.
Cheers
Claire
I'm lovin' them both, but especially the rectangle one! It has a real flow to it.
ReplyDeleteThese look like so much fun to make. And they are wonderful to look at - great designs and color sense!
ReplyDeleteOf course, and I just took several LARGE trash bags of scraps to the Project Linus group just before Christmas! Actually, I do agree with Debra that the triangle one looks like a mass gathering of the Red Hat Society....which leads to definite possibilities. I like the rectangle one the best too but, mostly because I really dislike most pinks.
ReplyDeleteBTW, darling baby...both of them!!

Great idea - why have I never done this. Your colours are superb. Oh, and by the way, I've tagged you for the Four Things meme. Have a look at my blog for more details.
ReplyDeleteI like the rectangle one. Now, Sue Benner would have you layer on more stuff and obliterate the background. I agree about the triangles - that color combo is not working for me.
ReplyDeleteI did a postcard with this confetti-style method. Easy and fun. I love your colors!
ReplyDeleteLike the triangle idea, nice as a background for some applique.
ReplyDeleteVery pointillist - love it!
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across your blog while I was doing some online research. This reminds me of my grandmother, who was loathe to throw anything away and managed to recycle nearly everything. We should all make more of an effort to do this! It just takes a little creativity and effort!
