The one that stole my heart!

Dscn0478_2 I'm in love with this one~~~!  The "eggplant" borders I dyed last last summer after getting bit by the dye bug at a workshop from Juanita Yeager

This is just the top and I'll have to learn how to bind the off set borders.  Can I use a pillow turn technique?  I was reading how to do a traditional border last night and the book was recommending hand sewing at the points.

  1. Love this quilt! For finishing the borders, check with Diane over at http://www.goingtopieces.blogspot.com/. She had an irregular shaped border kind of like this one on her bee quilt. I also think you could do something like a pillowcase finish. Jen

  2. Love it. Of course, you can't go wrong with purple. Yes, of course, you could pillow turn it. Just cut your seam allowances very close. Melody also has what she calls a ravioli finish. If the purple has fusible on it you can simply cut the batting slightly smaller than the quilt and fuse the tiny edge of the front that hangs over the batting to the backing. Get it?

  3. Yes, this IS beautiful. I enjoy the simplicity of the purple border, thin strips of bright color and the idea of triptychs. I love hand dyed and painted fabric, too. So personal.
For the binding, Melody also showed me a fused binding...it looks just like it sounds. How easy is that? I do think that using the pillow case would look the best. This piece doesn't seem to require an additional border to reiterate or solidify the design. It stands alone.

  4. What a gorgeous quilt! And eggplant is such an "in" color :-) Of course I've always loved the British term for it: aubergine. Doesn't the word just roll off your tongue?
I love all the WIPs, too. Keep up the terrific work and thanks for sharing your talent.

  5. Aubergine is such a prettier word than "eggplant", lol. it's not one of my favorite colors at all, but that purple is to "dye" for! This is a really pretty piece.

  6. I like the eggplant too. I think eggplant is a neat name, it has such funny visual connotations...Pillowcase would be good since it's so simple that a binding might detract from the design.

Swatching it!

Well, well, well...look who is swatching!  The plan (here goes...) is to knit my grand daughter a sweater.  This will be my first knitted ...
